The Prehistoric Heritage of Modern Mata Ortiz Pottery @ Sedona Heritage Museum
Mar 27 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Paquimé, Chihuahua, Mexico is the most important archaeological site in the American Southwest and northern Mexico.  Traders from this ancient city greatly influenced the Anasazi, Hohokam, and Mogollon cultures of the Southwest. Pottery from this site was the inspiration for modern Mata Ortiz ceramics.  John Bezy, who has worked with the potters of Mata Ortiz for nearly 30 years, will discuss the archaeology of Paquime and the evolution of today’s world-class pottery.
Master artist Oralia Lopez will demonstrate how the pottery is painted.
A good selection of Mata Ortiz pottery will be available for purchase at Mata Ortiz prices. Mata Ortiz4
